What makes Hidden Bay special?

There are so many factors that go into choosing a camp, here are the two biggest things that make Hidden Bay unique and a great place to go to camp.

  1. Small By Design

Compared to many camps out there, we are small.  With a capacity of 48 overnight campers, and 36 day campers, a child isn’t lost in the crowd.   This also means that campers are able to make connections with campers outside their cabin.  We find that this encourages mentoring, leadership and growth.

Also, when the camp gathers as a whole group, which we do daily at Pond Time, campfire and meals, it isn’t as overwhelming for children.

Our small size also allows us to have the ability to adapt.  This means that when an all-camp activity is going well, we have the ability to extend it, or if the weather turns foul we can adapt.  This allows us to follow the interests of the group, rather than being bound to a schedule set in stone.

2. Leadership for All Ages

We believe that leadership is something that every child can learn and do, regardless of age.  We work leadership into all aspects of camp, and make sure that it is always wrapped in a whole lot of fun.

Everyone participates in our daily leadership lessons, Pond Time.  This is where the counsellors take turns leading a 20 minute session to teach campers about an aspect of leadership, like integrity, communication, trust, and others, as well as courtesy, respect, responsibility, confidence, care and compassion (CRRC3) our foundational leadership principle.

For our youngest children this take the form of attending Pond Time, as well as being expected show their CRRC3 traits, and show responsibility for taking care of their space.

As campers get older, they are provided with more opportunities to try out being a leader, including being the leader in their cabins, as well as spending part of their day doing leadership challenges with the camp leadership team.

As campers become young adults, the Leader in Training (LIT) and Counsellor in Training (CIT) programs allow them to take on formal leadership roles within the camp and prepare them to be leaders in their schools and work as camp counsellors.

There are lots of great reasons to attend Hidden Bay, but these are the two most unique features of our camp and we believe make us a special place and a great choice for your camper.
