Because we provide a unique camp experience that brings together traditional camp activities with leadership training for campers of all ages. We are able to do this because we are small by design. With our high staff to camper ratio, and small overall numbers, we are aim to create an environment of trust.
We focus on building positive relationships between campers and these connections allow campers to discuss, develop goals and recognize achievements in a safe space. Campers know their voice is being heard and their ideas are being listened to.
Campers become facilitators of change in their own lives. We encourage responsibility by creating expectations for campers, rather than rules. Campers gain the skills to act with confidence, courtesy, respect and responsibility at camp, home and school.
Know that your child will come home with a new view on life.
What does Leadership look like at Hidden Bay?
Everything we do, from meals, to canoeing, to campfire, encourages each camper to –
Make good choices
Set goals
Make plans
Problem solve
Take responsibility
Experience success and celebrate the success of others
Our staff is trained to support these aims in all areas camps, from meals, to games, to the nightly closing circle. The staff will ask, rather than tell, campers what to do and work with them to help them develop their inner leadership and encourage them to share that with other.
At Hidden Bay we use two specific frameworks to share our camp values, the Future Aces Creed and CRRC3.
